Don's Philosophy
There's a quality to furniture that's greater than the houses in which we live. We sell our houses but we take our furniture with us. Every piece of furniture has a story to it...that particular table—Grandma's hall table, the dining room table that has heard family jokes and family fights for three generations, to the chair that little Johnny tripped over and broke his arm. I believe respect and sensitivity adds greater meaning to furniture and you can be assured The Finishing Touch appreciates the understated truth.
It's important for you to know that not everything has to be stripped and refinished
Often The Finishing Touch can improve an existing finish, conserve what you have, that's the basic difference between conservation and restoration. With some painted furniture, an archival varnish may be applied so paint doesn't continue to peel. In other cases spot-in coloring may be done where the wood has been damaged or chewed by a dog.
Unfinished projects
Everybody is a refinisher. It is rare that a family hasn't tried refinishing at least once. The Finishing Touch does not penalize you for doing what you can on you own. Often times we strip only furniture for the do-it yourselfers. We enjoy making you look like a hero. We can help you make a difficult repair if you wish to do it yourself. Don has a poster on the wall that says “We repair what your husband tried to fix.” Instead of driving a nail into a chair leg bring it by and we will fix it correctly. We use ecologically sound methods and are licensed to safely handle and properly disposed of chemical waste.
Refinishing verses buying new
A recent property management office compared the purchase of new chairs and found the quality and cost of new furniture was not nearly as good as refinishing their existing walnut chairs. With today’s economic realities more businesses and commercial offices are finding it cost effective to restore what they have and cut cost.
A piece of furniture does not have to be a priceless antique to get respect and tender loving care from Finishing Touch:
Not every family heirloom is an identifiable style or found on the antique road show. Our family's furniture is plain to the eye but not to the heart. Grandma's rocker can be fixed cheaper than you can buy a new one and you can keep the memories alive.
